Who we are
RedThreads Design focuses on well crafted bespoke knitwear and creative art yarns. Riley Davies, founder, graduated from Textile Design at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2020 and has since continued their craft practice through the exploration and development of knit garments and handspun yarns.
We produce small scale, one of a kind legacy knits and handspun yarns for hobby crafters. Our designs are rooted in a love of our materials and the natural landscape. As we move forward creatively in the midst of climate disaster, RedThreads Design is currently grappling with the ethics of the creative application to garment design. We believe that creatives cannot be separate from our responsibilities to the planet and people. In this spirit, we are currently in the process of developing a line of fully biodegradable knit goods with materials sourced from local Fibreshed on Vancouver Island. An appreciation for organic forms, crisp design and distinct silhouettes are at the core of what we do.
Meet the maker
she/they
Riley Davies is a graduate in Textile Design from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Since graduation in 2020, she has continued developing her craft in the context of sustainable material exploration. Riley believes that ethical material choices are necessary in a changing textile landscape. This affects the design process, as pieces are often developed after sustainable materials have been sourced. Riley believes in people and planet first, which has guided her practice and creative pursuits outside of textiles.
Riley also has a keen interest in surface design, print, and writing. Riley runs a not for profit zine, Ugh, And Then Some which is a responsive project to the lack of representation of creative diversity in the Squamish Arts Sector. All profits from zine sales go directly to supporting PACE, a not for profit organization in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver that supports sex workers.
